Who’s Carries the Torch Next?

This picture has 4 NBA All-Stars in it: Lebron James, Kevin Durant, Derrick Rose, and Blake Griffin. Right now it is obvious that Lebron James is the face of the NBA right now followed by other great players behind him, like Dwyane Wade, Carmelo Anthony, Dwight Howard, Chris Paul, Deron Williams, Amare’ Stoudemire, etc. who are representing the NBA but there are a few players who have a very bright future and when the Lebron James era slows down, who will ben next in line to be the face of the league?

Will it be one of the other 3 guys in the picture, who all happen to be on the cover of NBA 2K13. Let’s take a look and see who is the best candidate for being the next face of the NBA:

Derrick Rose is has the #1 selling jersey in the NBA right now and not only that he was named MVP of the league in 2011 and is a 3-time All-Star. He is arguably the best point guard in the NBA when healthy, but that is the problem, he is dealing with a knee injury that will keep him out until next Spring. And the question is, can he return to his MVP form when he returns?

Blake Griffin is the most exciting player in the NBA right now and he proved that by winning the 2011 Slam-Dunk Contest. He is definetly someone who can fill the seats in an arena because you know you are going to get at least one spectacular highlight from Blake during the game. The question with him is will be more than just a highlight reel? A lot of people question whether the fact that he can become a great all around player, like develop a jump shot, become a better free throw shooter and average more than 6 rebounds in the playoffs. I think he can but only time will tell.

Now probably the most likely candidate here would be Kevin Durant. He is a 3-time scoring champ, won the 2012 All-Star Game MVP and led the Oklahoma City Thunder to the NBA Finals this year. Durant is often said to be the 2nd best player in the league behind Lebron James. He has all the tools to be the best player, had he won in the NBA Finals I probably wouldn’t even be writing this post, instead I would be writing about how Lebron can regain his status as the face of the league. The outcome of the Finals determined a lot and it showed who is #1 and it showed us who is probably next in line, Kevin Durant.

All 3 players, Durant, Griffin, and Rose play a different position and bring something different to the NBA. The main thing is staying healthy and so far Durant has done the best at that.
